BIOGRAPHY My starting point is always drawing. Something will catch my eye, it can be anything from the evening shadows on the side of a chapel, to the line of a dog’s lead walking the promenade. My surroundings in West Wales provide endless inspiration, particularly around my home by Aberystwyth Harbour. My ink drawings are about spending time looking and being in the moment. The white spaces are as important as the ink and watercolour marks, leaving room for theRead More

BIOGRAPHY I started to paint in middle age when my wife bought me a set of watercolour paints as a Christmas present. I grew up in rural surroundings and have always been fascinated by old farmhouses , cottages and churches which unfortunately, in many cases, are fast disappearing due to decay or modernisation. I believe this lends a sense of nostalgia to much of my work. Although I was initially inspired to work in watercolours, I also work in oilsRead More

BIOGRAPHY I am a practising artist living in North Wales where I have been working and exhibiting for the past fifteen years. My subject matter is mostly landscape or seascape. I work in a variety of media the main one being oil paint where I enjoy its intensity of colour and mastic like qualities which enable  me to apply the paint to the painting surface with brush, knife, fingers, or whatever tool seems appropriate to achieve a desired effect. IRead More

BIOGRAPHY I’m an Aberystwyth based painter who has exhibited my work widely in Wales and England since 1987.  I established a reputation early on in my career, with the publication and worldwide distribution of my semi-abstract floral work, as posters for The Art Group, Ikea and Habitat in the 1990’s. I undertook  formal art training at Aberystwyth University in 1998, completing a BA (1st class hons) and an MA in Fine Art (2003).  I have been represented locally by OrielRead More

BIOGRAPHY My inspiration to paint has often started in Wales. ‘Snowdon Horseshoe’ was a painting that I developed from a sketch one very overcast afternoon just before the Heaven’s opened! And ‘View from Grace’s window’ was indeed my daughter’s lovely view of Aberystwyth pier! She is lucky enough to live in Aberystwyth and introduced me to Oriel y Bont.  Currently I am looking forward to developing some paintings of the Mawddach estuary. I have always felt that observation underpins everythingRead More

BIOGRAPHY My printing process today starts, as it’s always done with a walk and a sketchbook. Following lonely trails over empty hills, through twisting forests tracks, or along cliff side paths looking for colour, pattern and texture. I’m looking for fully complete compositions out in the landscape. All I have to do is find the right place to stand, the right direction to look and start drawing. Once back in the studio the work consists of scaling up the imageRead More

BIOGRAPHY I was born in Blaenau Ffestiniog in 1951 and left my native north Wales in the 1960s to study at the Manchester College of Art.  I quickly returned home and worked in the slate quarry for a few years before picking up the professional paint brush to work on varied work to include portraits and still life. In the early years, the majority of my work was sourced by private commissions; however, in 1980  I changed direction and choseRead More

BIOGRAPHY I was born and raised in Maentwrog, near Blaenau Ffestiniog in 1952. The village was surrounded by woodland and forest steeped in Welsh history and legend. Those early years walking in the woods and exploring the landscape have stayed with me to this day. Painting has always been part of my life and I have exhibited at various galleries and venues but after retiring from the National Library of Wales in 2010 I have been able to dedicate mostRead More
