BIOGRAPHY
Having studied with the late Peter Prendergast at Gwynedd Technical College, and Terry Setch at the Cardiff Institute of Higher Education, I graduated and became a full time artist in 1992. I work from my studio in Groeslon, Caernarfon. My mixed media work depicts my roots, memories, upbringing and all that is Welsh, which I’m incredibly proud and passionate about. The dioramas I create are made from papier-mâché, vinted fabrics, old photographs and upcycled items which bring my sculptures to life. The nostalgic ‘nearly’ three dimensional scenes represent Welsh life with humour and joy.
I have exhibited in various galleries in North Wales and Cardiff and I’m an acclaimed prize winner at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. My work is held in collections at the National Library of Wales Aberystwyth and CADW.
I hope my work will eventually speak to a wider audience than just the fortunate few of us who are still able to live and work in our country. Could the art possibly remind exiles, as well as survivors, of our common history and the past struggles which have made us what we are today?
I hope to make people think about recycling. Not only the recycling of fabrics, scraps of newsprint, etc, but also the recycling of old ideas, fashions and assumptions which might still have interest and validity.
Above all, I hope to make you smile!
