LILWEN LEWIS

BIOGRAPHY

I was born in New Quay on the coast of Cardigan Bay.

I was lucky enough to go to Art College at a very young age. Firstly to Carmarthen School of Art then to Swansea School of Art studying Painting and Stained Glass. Finally to Cardiff College of Art Graduating at Cardiff University.

I spent five years teaching Art and Craft at St Clears Secondary School. I found it inspiring working  with the pupils and seeing the world of art through their eyes.  I recall we had an old ambulance which was used as a mini bus transporting us to art galleries also enabling us to paint and draw outside, it was great fun.

Then I got married and returned to live in New Quay running a home and looking after my children.  I never gave up painting and exhibiting. Always carrying my Art Bag with me and occasionally having an open studio at my home.

My inspiration comes from the landscape around my home walking through woods, farms and down to the seafront among the fishing boats.  Observing the changing moods of the landscape and the people.

I like experimenting with different mediums and techniques.  Going from realism through to semi abstraction. You never know how work will turn out or what it will lead to.  I also enjoy life drawing and portraits.

I try and draw or paint each day even if its just a five minute sketch.
